Museum & Historical Sites

History is everywhere in Washington County! Of Maryland’s 300-plus museums, more than ten percent are located here. You can step into a 19th century schoolhouse or visit museums and outdoor sites that focus on our industrial, agricultural and military past. Follow the tracks to the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum to discover the reason for Hagerstown’s famous “Hub City” moniker. Visit the French and Indian War-era Fort Frederick. Knock on the front door of Hagerstown’s namesake at the Jonathan Hager House and Museum, located in Hagerstown City Park.

Explore three other museums located in the park as well — the culturally rich Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, the Mansion House Art Gallery filled with the works of local artists, and the Hagerstown Railroad Museum which houses the Western Maryland Steam Engine 202.
