The C&O Canal Trust is excited to announce a unique opportunity to tour Lockhouse 49, one of our seven lockhouses in the Canal Quarters program.
Located in Clearspring at Four Locks, Lockhouse 49 is our largest lockhouse in the Canal Quarters program. It is also the only Canal Quarters lockhouse that is found in Washington County! We are excited to welcome you to come out and tour the lockhouse and imagine what it would have been like to live and work alongside the canal. After your tour, come sit by the campfire and enjoy some s’mores!
Our award-winning Canal Quarters program provides visitors with an immersive park experience where guests can enjoy an overnight stay in a historic lockhouse and live just as the lock keepers did in the 1850s. Directions can be found here.
