The Conference will feature three 10k volksmarches (walks) which are open to the public.  Each walk also has a 5k or 6k option.  The walks will showcase Hagerstown, Shepherdstown & Antietam.  To sign up for the walks, come to the Ramada Plaza, 1718 Underpass Way, during the hours of 8 am-4 pm on Friday and Saturday or 8 am-1 pm on Sunday.  There you will receive instructions for doing the walks.

Also, open to the public: An organizational meeting to establish a volksmarch/walking club in Hagerstown will be held on Saturday, March 19 at 10 am at the Ramada Plaza.  Anyone interested in walking is invited to attend.

The Guest speaker for the Saturday evening banquet will be Steve Bockmiller, local historian and City Planner for the City of Hagerstown.  He will talk about the Civil War in Washington County.  He has recently published a book entitled “Washington County in the Civil War”.   He will have copies of his book available for purchase.

Dan Spedden, President of the CVB, stated, “We are thrilled to be the destination to host this event. Having this group meet in Washington County gives us the chance to really show off our many stellar attractions -- historical, cultural, recreational and retail. Hosting attendees who love the outdoors is the perfect convention for our area because Washington County has 5 National Parks and 8 State Parks.  Our organization has been immersed in the celebration of the Centennial of the National Parks this year in our sale and marketing efforts.”

CVB Director of Sales, Audrey Vargason, said, “The CVB is pleased to have assisted and coordinated with the organizers to provide special visitor services for the attendees. We are the thrilled to welcome them to our city and county! It is a significant group for the county because of their use of the outdoors, and Washington County has so much to offer!”

The Conference is sponsored by the Maryland Volkssport Association.  For more information and to see the Conference brochure, go to www.mdvolks.org.
