What's New for 2019
Volunteer Committee is Bigger & Better!
We’ve added two new members to our Volunteer Committee, Karen Gardner and Chris Dennis, to assist with making sure our volunteer program runs smoothly. Karen and Chris are both members of the local cycling community and were volunteers in action every day of the event last year. Welcome, Karen & Chris!
Time Trial
While the expo on Netz Road was a great addition last year, safety is our number one priority. Therefore in 2019, Netz Road will be utilized for event staging and emergency services. This will allow for improved access to residents along MD 67 and more athlete parking on MD 67.
Road Race
We need more manpower to help with parking and the feed zone, these roles are necessary to ensure that riders are well positioned for a successful race!
Criterium
The What’s NXT Block Party hosted by Mercury Endurance Cycles is relocating to University Plaza along West Washington Street. This venue provides more shade for spectators and vendors while maintaining a great viewing area for turns 4 and 5 on course. We look forward to announcing more exciting changes centered around the What’s NXT Block Party and hope you will stay tuned!
Contacting the Volunteer Committee
The Volunteer Committee also has a shared e-mail address, event@visithagerstown.com in which they can be reached at any time. They can also be reached by phone at 301-791-3246 Ext. 16. While a response may not be immediate, a member of the committee should respond to you well within 24 hours.
Upon signing up, you will receive a confirmation email, with the cell phone number of Lauren Metz and Karen Gardner.
A Note to Returning Volunteers
Thank you very much for your continued commitment to the USA Cycling Amateur Road National Championships. Our volunteer program is the backbone of a successful and safe event!
While the cycling component of the event will remain the same for 2019, some changes have been made, orientation will be optional for returning volunteers.
Youth Volunteers
Anyone interested in volunteering under the age of 18 must have their guardians permission to volunteer for the event. We prefer volunteers to be over the age of 16, for those younger than 16 who wish to volunteer, we ask that a parent/guardian volunteers with you.
If your child needs volunteer credit for school or a civic group, just let us know and we'll be happy to verify their volunteer hours. Note for Washington County Public Schools, Volunteer hours final approval is granted by the school counselor, not Visit Hagerstown.
