GENERAL:

When is the official event happening?

The 2019 Championship events will occur in the following sequence:

June 19: Athlete Registration
June 20: Time Trial – MD 67, Boonsboro, MD – South County including but not limited to Rohrersville, Keedysville, Gapland, Yarrowsburg, and Brownsville.
June 21: Road Race, Day 1 – Clear Spring, MD
June 22: Road Race, Day 2 – Clear Spring, MD
June 23: Criterium – Downtown Hagerstown, MD

Note: We anticipate that Athletes will be in the area as early as June 14th to practice on the roadways. Please be alert for increased cycling traffic.

Is it a rain or shine event?
Yes, it is a National Championship! Races may be delayed or stopped due to medical or fire emergencies high winds and thunder/ lightening, but generally they ride rain or shine. 

Can I participate as a competitor in the race?
The race is open to riders ages 11 to 22 that are members of USA Cycling and meet their regulations. For more information on the competition rules visit: http://legacy.usacycling.org/2018/amateur-road-nationals

  • Wednesday, June 19
    • Race Staging Northbound and South-bound Shoulder of MD 67
    • Netz Road, between MD 67 and Appletown Road will be Closed to Through Traffic.  
  • Thursday, June 20: MD 67
    • MD 67 will be closed to all through traffic from approximately 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM
    • Residents will be able to travel in the shoulder of MD 67 to access their homes or businesses along MD 67
    • Motorist will be permitted to cross at main intersections with the assistance of Traffic Controllers and MD State Police
    • The closure for Through Traffic MD 67 will be from US 40 to Garretts Mill Road, Residents will be able to access Yarrowsburg Road, which is part of the main detour.  
    • Broadfording Road in Clear Spring will be closed to all traffic between US 40 National Pike and Martin Street beginning approximately at 6 PM for Race Staging.  
  • June 21: Clear Spring, MD
    • Broadfording Road will be close to all traffic US 40 National Pike and Martin Street.
    • No parking on Martin Street.
    • Draper Road will be One-Way Traffic During Race Hours which will be approximately 6:00 AM to 7:30 PM.
    • Please use caution when traveling on US 40, Boyd Road, Martin Street, Broadfording Road, Draper Road, Mill Street, Harvey Road, Cohill Road, Mercersburg Road, Fairview Road (Rt. 494), St. Paul Road (US 57), Faith Road, Hicksville Road, Barnhart Road, Dry Run Road, Big Spring Road, Big Bool Road, Rocky Meadow Road and Orebank Road.
    • If you are greeted by a Traffic Controller, Sherriff’s Deputy or Motorcycle Marshall pull off to the side of the road to allow the Peloton (Group of Cyclist to pass) the end of Caravan will be marked by a Vehicle that says end of Caravan on the rear windshield. 
  • Saturday, June 22: Clear Spring / Hagerstown
    • Broadfording Road will be close to all traffic US 40 National Pike and Martin Street.
    • No parking on Martin Street.
    • Draper Road will be One-Way Traffic During Race Hours which will be approximately 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM.
    • Please use caution when traveling on US 40, Boyd Road, Martin Street, Broadfording Road, Draper Road, Mill Street, Harvey Road, Cohill Road, Mercersburg Road, Fairview Road (Rt. 494), St. Paul Road (US 57), Faith Road, Hicksville Road, Barnhart Road, Dry Run Road, June 23: Criterium is being held in downtown Hagerstown.
    • Beginning at 6:30 PM S. Potomac Street from Antietam Street to Baltimore Street in Downtown Hagerstown for Race Staging.
    • Sunday, June 23
    • Road Closures will go into effect at 4:00 AM in the Downtown Area the following roads will be completely closed to all traffic, including emergency vehicles:
      • W. Washington Street (from Summit Ave. to Potomac Street)
      • Potomac Street (from Franklin Street to Baltimore Street)
      • Baltimore Street (from Locust to Summit Avenue)
      • Summit Avenue (from Baltimore Street to Washington Street)

Is there anything for spectators to do?
Yes, each day of the event there will be an expo area that will feature local food and vendors.

VOLUNTEERS:

Are there volunteer opportunities?
Yes, we have a number of volunteer positions available the week of the event!

To sign up please go to http://www.visithagerstown.com/volunteer Volunteer shifts will be approximately three hours, and volunteers will receive a free tee-shirt, and meals. Are primary need for volunteers are for Set-Up Assistance, Parking Assistance, Course Assistance during the Road Race June 21 – June 22 and the Criterium June 23.
